Outings

Today I took the kids to the temple for a picnic.

(Afton wanted to take this pic of Ben and me)
The outing was as much for them as it was for me. They needed to get out of the house and go to a new place to explore. I needed to follow through with some goals. Our Bishop recently gave our ward a challenge to do five certain things this year. One of them was to take our kids to the temple grounds. It has been way too long since I took the kids to the temple. In fact, I think Ben has never been outside of the womb... Hmm. Anyway, I took them to go and fulfill the challenge and to get some personal grounding. Going inside the temple is obviously more spiritual, but at least visiting the grounds gets me in the neighborhood.
Jared and I just got new callings so of course we are taking on more. For the past year and a bit I have successfully flown under the radar for any sort of calling that required a ton of time or meetings, etc. In a way I am glad to serving again, but it will be an adjustment (I mean, it is really like taking on a part-time job in some respects). Now I'm in the primary pres. and I get to try and kick-start some creative juices to teach sharing times, plan some activities, and try to stay organized. I think this will be good for me. Maybe it will inspire me to think of more fun things for Afton to do during the day. She is just bored lately, no matter what I come up with, and is taking it out on all of us by being a supreme grouch. Any ideas from you moms out there of 3 year olds? Seriously, I think I'm going to go a bit crazy on this one.

When she is in a good mood we do have a lot of fun though. Jared surprised me last night with this picture of Afton:

Sometimes it pays to have an outie...

That is a side of Afton that I had not yet seen... and hurray for grouchy children! I mean, at least I am not alone. The best solution that I have found is outside, outside, outside. I mean, when you find that you can't handle the children in the container you live in, take them to a larger one where their voices cannot bounce off the walls and where there is already dirt on the ground. Good luck.

Love the pictures, love the kids, love you. You are a great mom. How did I get so luck to have such wonderful people all around me. And good luck on the 3 year old thing. I ran out of ideas long a go I am afraid. I am trying to figure out ways to entertain and spiritually uplift teenage girls on a mountain top for 4 days.

Those pictures are great! As for ideas, sock puppets entertained my brother for quite some time--both making them and then writing plays for them. I used old socks, felt, and a hot glue gun. McKay had a great time for at least a week. :)

Great pics-- I think Afton looks like her dad in the last one:)

Uh-- if you need some empathy, read my blog on Terrible three's a couple of years ago with SO. Who says "two's" are terrible?? I have hit the wall with "threes".

You will be great in the Primary Pres. Cool:)
