Lesson Learned

Our primary had an activity yesterday to teach the kiddos about humanitarian service. We asked people to donate food and clothes to an orphanage in Haiti called Foyer de Sion. As I got ready for the activity, I learned more about the needs in Haiti and it sure made me realize, again, how good I have it. Sometimes the amount of blessings I have almost overwhelm me when I put it in perspective with how hard many people have it all over the world. It inspired me to give and made me want to teach our kids the value of giving to others in need. I think I used to pass it off with a quick, "they're too young," but now I don't think so at all. They can see by our examples from a very early age what it is to serve others.
We had a smallish turn out from the primary kids, which was totally fine with me. More manageable.
We taught the kids some Haitian games, had them eat some Haitian food, and helped them sort through our donations. Overall it was a very fun little activity that gave us all warm fuzzies. Now the trick is to get those donations to those kids that need it!
The moral of this post? Go donate something to someone who needs it.

Very inspiring! I'm so glad your kids will know how great they have it, and not grow up spoiled ;)

By the way, Abby, your family picture at the top of your blog is really great. Honestly, what a beautiful family!

I'm glad you posted about this. I may have to steal a couple of these pics for my post - if I do one. :)
