This New Year's we handed over the party reigns to Afton. She loves planning things, making lists, and being in charge. After some thought, she asked Jared to help her spell out all the things she wanted to do for our super fun New Year's Eve party.
Here's her list:

Ben and Afton started the party off with a crazy race around the house (a daily event too).
Then we cooked a yummy treat a la Spain: Churros con Chocolate. Yum!

Afton then set us up for a lovely round of coloring where we made our New Year's party hats. Jared cut out the interesting shapes, the kids did the decorating:

Ben has found a love for coloring and will sit down for a really long time in super concentration as he scribbles out "pictures" of Lightning McQueen, Mr. The King, and Thomas the Train, among other things.

The finished products. (Don't mind the freaky face I'm making. Everyone else looks great.)

We played a Shadow Shape game that turned into a dance party:

And then everyone got to show their own dance. Here's a duet with Jared and Afton as they boogied. Costumes were optional at our party. :)

All in all it was a fun party. We celebrated Kid New Year at about 8pm, and the kids fell asleep about five minutes later. They were totally exhausted from the festivities even though we'd pumped them full of sugar.
Earlier in the day we took them snow shoeing and sledding. It was a gorgeous, clear, cold day on the mountain and we all had a great time.

Happy New Year!

Guess which picture Eliza liked best? The mirror shot. Looks like a great party. See you on the birthday bash.
Great shot of Afton at the end!! You guys put on a great party...
Where did you find a churro recipe-- and did you like the recipe? I bought a mix and it was "so-so".
What a great party. Maybe next year we'll come up!
Looks like so much fun. Great way to start the new year. We sure love ya
I'll have Afton start on the party list for next year, with that much time to prepare the party is going to be one rip roaring event! All are invited.
I want Afton to do the party plans for all of our parties. That sounded totally great!
