2013 year in review

2013 was good to us. Our little family was very blessed with a calm and peaceful year without any major problems.  Kind of nice for a change!

Cade grew from a baby to a little dude.  After turning two, he decided it was finally time to start to learn how to say some stuff.  By the end of the year his personality really showed through and we have enjoyed his goofy antics while he continues with his ability to pacify sibling fights with a smile and a hug.  Cade is an active, sports-loving and physical little guy.  He loves anything football or wrestling and loves to run.  We think he is crazy coordinated and hope he will make us tons of money one day as a professional athlete. ;)

Ben finished up preschool and got to start kindergarten.  He loves it! He has really been able to catch a love for learning.  He played flag football for the first time and showed his skill for pulling flags and even scored in the last game.  Ben also learned how to swim and took to it like a fish.  Ben loves being a big brother to Cade and they really get along well. We love to hear him sing and giggle every day.

Afton had an amazing experience with her first grade teacher and reluctantly moved into second grade.  It has been a little underwhelming but she has made up for it by delving into challenging books and being a great student.  Afton played soccer for the first time this year with Jared as her coach.  Their little co-ed team had a blast and it was great to watch Afton get more confident with each game.  Afton is a great swimmer too and learned to swim the length of the pool and back all by herself!  She loves being the big sister and is totally capable of leading her brothers into amazing adventures. We love her intensity and nurturing nature.

Jared stuck through another year as a prosecutor because he loves us.  He was awarded a lovely crock pot for his five years of hard work. What a generous employer!  Jared has really excelled at his calling as the Teacher's Quorum adviser.  Those teenagers keep him on his toes almost as much as the three wild children we have at home.

I don't have much to report for personal growth or development besides realizing that I am really grateful for good health and NOT having a gall bladder anymore.  My first and last surgery, I hope.

As a family we got to do some really cool new things in 2013.  We took the kids to the beach for the first time and proved we could stay in the car for ten hours without anyone killing each other.  It was a fabulous change of our usual routine.  We also got to have a pioneer experience in Wyoming with extended family.  We camped and vacationed in four different states and super different climates.  But we love calling Boise home!  Our ward boundaries split in the summer so we also got to significantly change our social scene.  It has been fun to meet new friends and keep in touch with old ones.

We had many visits from family members to our little home and we appreciated every one!  We got to be with family for a baby blessing, a baptism, and a wedding. Truly family and friends make life so rich!

Abby, I was just clicking through all my blog links and you are one of the only people still blogging (I do too). I enjoyed reading your recap of 2013! Only a few months behind! Keep it up! :)
