You Gotta Have Friends

I read an article in this months Parenting magazine that talked about the five friends that all kids need. As I naturally scanned the friends that Afton plays with on occasion, I realized that she has most of the categories filled. So, here's a shout out to her great little friends around Boise!
#1 The convenient friend: and the award goes to Samantha.

She's our new across the street neighbor and these two girls are addicted to each other. They wait for some sign from the other house across the street that they are coming outside, and then squeal and giggle until they meet at the street where we moms escort them across to play. They ride their bikes almost every day. In fact, Samantha has inspired Afton to really learn to pedal her bike all by herself. Yahoo!
#2 The opposite sex friend: Owen. He was her buddy from our last ward, and since moving we only see him at story time at the library. These two kids just laugh their heads off when they are together while running in circles.
#3 The athletic friend: her Dad!

Afton and Jared could play all day given the chance. Also her preschool friend Hannah who will jump endlessly on the trampoline with her any time.
#4 The slightly older friend: Ethan.

She looks up to him so much and will follow him around with puppy dog devotion. Good thing Ethan is one of the nicest boys you will ever meet. Love that kid.
#5 The friend she chooses: still to come! This is one we can look forward to as she gets older and becomes more independent. Hopefully she/he will be a great one too!

I've never scanned my friends like that...does it apply for older people too or just for kids? :o)

Cute kids. I love seeing the kinds of friendships my kids enjoy-- so far they've all been great kids.

I love this! I haven't really thought about how important friends could be already in their development. One of the things that will really start to develop over the next few years is the friendship and bond between Afton and Ben. Abby and Will are 22 months apart and are truly each other's best friends. It makes life super nice around here, except when they hurt each other...:)

What a cute post. I remember reading that article too. I may have to copy your post.

The other day I took pictures of Grant because I'm planning to copy your post with pictures of Afton making different expressions.

Really - I just copy you. Because I think you're cool. And I want to be like you. Truly. Love you!

I was looking at another blog, found your "spot" again, and I'm so glad I did! I'd misplaced your address, but now I have it, so I can keep up on the happenings at your place. Keep up the good work--you've done a great job, and it's such fun to see pics of your darling family!
