Concert

This week I branched out from my usual Mom duties. Way out. And it felt so fun to do it!
The other day my friend Wendy was talking to me about a some new music she was really loving lately by Brandi Carlile. Then she mentioned that Brandi was having a concert in Boise the next week. We kind of laughed and said it would be fun to go to a concert and then tried to remember the last time either of us actually went to one. I used to go to plenty of great concerts back in my college and single days but after thinking really hard I realized I hadn't been to a real concert in almost seven years!
Then the next day I read a blog post from my friend Corinne's blog and there was a little write-up of her going to a Brandi Carlile concert and loving it. My path became clear...
Wendy and I decided we just had to go! The day of the concert I realized I had no sassy concert attire and wished I lived closer to my sisters so I could raid their closets for some sort of style. After putting on my usual jeans and shirt, I at least decided to wear a necklace (a big fashion statement for me, ha ha).
I felt like a real adult as we got closer and closer to the concert. Seven years had gone quickly, but that tangible energy from the atmosphere was still totally familiar. We got to the concert and immediately were confronted with vomit, overly loud lesbians, and a buzz of excitement. Yup.
As we made our way towards the stage I got giddy for live music! The opener was Katie Herzig with a cool, raspy and alternative folksy sound I loved. Check her out.
Then Brandi and her band came on and opened with an a capella song that gave me chills. Having been recently introduced to her music, I didn't know how cool her voice really was. Her depth, range and total style was fabulous. For the next hour and a half she sang her guts out, charmed us with her stage presence, and made me a huge fan.
We had a perfect spot about four rows back. We saw their facial expresssions and sweat and of course their passion for music. It was so fun!!!!!

How fun, it sounds like a lovely night out!! And did you know that Wendy was a roommate of me and Carrie's at BYU? She was. You guys are cool. Now I want to look that lady up and listen to her music.

I meant "a roommate of mine and Carrie's". Pardon the grammatical error.

I'll have to listen to her music. Sounds so fun. I do not want to count how long it has been since I went to a live concert. Love your necklace by the way

I think the last "concert" I went to was actually in Boise when I was in High School, and I won't even embarrass myself and say who it was!!

That looks like lots of fun and yes, you do look "sassy!!"

How much fun! Nights out like that are so good. It is nice to feel free and non mommy-ish for a little bit. Not that being a mom is bad, it just feels good to remember how you felt before. I'll stop talking now.. And, I love the necklace. I don't even have one of those to spice up my wardrobe!
