My roots

No, not my hair. My heritage.

There is something super ingrained in me, being from Utah, to have a party over the 24th. So even though it isn't an Idaho holiday, it's an LDS holiday and must be celebrated!

We went to a little pioneer party where we got to play pioneer games and be fed yummy food. Sounds just right!

Afton mastered the potato sack race and even bobbed for an apple. Ben found a way to sneak candy from every place he could, then topped it off with a swiped apple from the bobbing game. The kids also got to ride in a hand cart pulled by Jared. Then came the adult sack races. Jared won, of course. Then we did a three-legged race. We planned our strategy with a little "middle, outside!" chant for our legs. But I forgot that Jared likes to win races, so when we stumbled close to the finish line and had to quickly get back up, I was caught unaware of his finishing strategy. It consisted of lunging across the finish line while flinging arms and legs forward. Since I was attached at the leg by a sack, I went with the strategy. For the next couple of days I got comments of how crazy I looked doing that forward flip through the air and landing in a heap over the finishing line. Yeah. I meant to do that.

And here's my funny photo of the week. Ben informed me one day that he wanted to take a nap on his floor. So he spread out and promptly fell asleep in the middle of his room. Whatever works, I say. Here he is SLEEPING.

Fun 24th activities! I can't believe how big Ben looks all stretched out. Don't you love it when they WANT to sleep?

Hurray for the 24th. We celebrate in Wyoming where they had parties and parades going too. I don't know if they were just celebrated that those Mormons just kept moving on thru or what. And for the nap on the floor, yeah, that does look good

I would love to see a picture of that race! I can totally picture it, and don't worry, I thought you very graceful going head over heals! Cute picture of your boy on the floor!

We took our kids to the fairgrounds where they rode horses, slid on water slides, and listened to kids sing off-key versions of off-key Mylie Cyrus songs. We also saw dance teams in vinyl space suits clog to unpopular 80s songs. It was so Napoleon Dynamite-esque. Will some one get me out of eastern-Idaho please?
