Horsethief Reservoir

Our latest camping adventure took us to Horsethief Reservoir with our friends the Bernards. It was a beautiful, secluded little dam with lots of pine trees, a lovely lake, and great company. We had a great time playing in the water, even got to try out a little raft. I ate tons of roasted marshmallows, and didn't get any mosquito bites. Heavenly.
The night got really cold and I think the local herd of cows decided to stay up late to have a party. They moo'd all night long and the sound made an eery sort of echo down the canyon walls. All night long. I've never been kept up all night because of cows.
It was still really fun and we're learning more and more what things we should bring to be more streamlined car campers. Next up: a three-night camping trip over Labor Day. Bring it on!

I have been kept awake many nights on public lands by the lowing of cattle. Stupid, tasty cattle.
