Eve sledding

We've been playing in the snow lately and loving that there IS snow! I made a "Snow Lightning" because Ben's obsessed with all things Lightning McQueen. It's hard to tell in the pictures, but here are the kids driving:

Afton made a snowbaby all by herself. She's getting pretty good!
For a Christmas Eve activity we took the kids sledding at a nearby hill that had just enough snow to go on. Everyone was very gung-ho about sledding so we were pretty sure it would be a great day.
Too bad we decided to put them on a sled together and send them down the hill without really seeing what was in store. They hit a huge jump at the bottom of the hill and got a couple feet of air, then crash landed on their faces. OUCH. The snow was pretty icy, so they got scraped faces and Afton got a mini black eye. Um, sorry kids. Jared went down the same hill and he got so much air on the jump that he broke the sled. Hmmm. But they were brave and went down a small hill a couple more times so no lasting trauma...
Later that day Afton assured me that we weren't really "bad parents" because at least we went to help them after they crashed. We had just made a bad parenting decision in sending them down the big hill in the first place. Whew. She doesn't think we're bad people, just bad decision-makers. (Yes, we're really in trouble when this kid is a teenager.) Here's the slightly swollen face of a disappointed, injured child:

We had a lovely Christmas though and feel super blessed that we're all doing fine after our interesting adventures.

Yeah... I know what you guys did. You greased their sled with the new non-choloric silicone base kitchen lubricant that creates a surface 500 times more slippery than any cooking oil.....

Wow. Sounds like fun even with the scrapes and bumps.

I knew that you weren't bad parents, and Afton knows it, too--but we'll have to work on those bad parenting decisions! :) OH my, she is too much! That is awesome! It sounds like what I say to my kids: "I love you, but I don't like what you chose to do." :) Do you say things like that? Maybe that's where she was coming from? In any event, she's a cutie!

Julie, you made me laugh right out loud!
We have done that to our kids too, and the sad thing is, we have done it more than once. You would think we would learn.
Hope your Christmas was super wonderful!
