A 5th Birthday Party to remember

This year there was a last minute effort to put together a birthday party for Afton. She was so very excited to turn 5 that the thought of not celebrating with her friends was out of the question for her. And since she loves to plan things out, especially parties, I left all the party ideas up to her. She determined we needed a cake and ice cream (of course), a watermelon seed spitting contest, a pin-the-face-on-the-kid game, and a dance party. She even had a very specific order for each of these events. I figured that if they were exciting for her, they'd be exciting for her friends. Yup!

Here's our birthday girl super excited to be 5!!!! The cake is supposed to be a Tiana cake (from Princess and the Frog) but is a loose interpretation...

Moments before the wish...

Afton's outcome from pinning her face on the kid with a blindfold
Ben's faceSome seriously messy seed spitting
This was probably the funniest part for me to watch. Some of the kids just spit out whatever was in their mouths. Some could get some serious distance with the seeds and some were too busy eating it to worry about spitting out any seeds at all (Ben).

Then we had impromptu races around the yard. That is a favorite activity with our kids any day of the week. And the dance party was totally fun until almost all the kids got bumped and got sad. They are all ok though. :)
We are so amazed by our sweet Afton. She is so smart, kind, goofy, nurturing, feisty, loving, competitive, and intense. It has been five years of absolute entertainment to be her parents. She loves to ask questions and figure out how things work and why. She has a hunger to learn and explore. Afton loves to be a big sister, craves praise, and has the best laugh ever. What an amazing little person we have growing up before our eyes. We love you Aft-a-rooni!

Sounds like lots of fun. What an inventive kid. By the way, is it summer where you live? I haven't seen grass that green in ages.

I love that she planned it herself. I wish it was short weather here!

I just may copy Aftons' ideas. I love how Ben is always having a laugh attack in his pictures. Very much like Jared when trying to tell a funny joke. Looking at that laughing baby mug makes me laugh every time!
