Retirement for my dad

My dad is my hero. I have always been really close with him, we get along so well. Whether it was to do a project around the house, cook a meal, go last minute Christmas shopping, or just hang out, I love to do it with my dad. He has worked so hard my whole life to provide for my every need and those of my mom and brothers and sisters. The word lazy is not in his vocabulary, and his vocabulary is vast indeed. Through 37 years of a growing family, hardships, celebrations, and all the in betweens he has gone to work at OC Tanner Co.
So he deserved a big hoorah this last weekend because he finally got to retire! It was so very sweet to see how his coworkers gushed about his amazing career. Can you believe working that many years at one company and never getting bored? I attribute it to his creative mind and tireless work ethic. He's awesome. I wish I were better with words to really give him the tribute he deserves.
We made the last walk through his office as he showed us one of the latest pieces of his genius. It was kind of a giddy feeling to watch him walk away for the last time and know he was very happy. Then we threw him a party! Ready for a ridiculous amount of photos to document it? Here we go!
We did another Knight's Feast and Tournament (like we did for his 60th birthday, but bigger) at our cabin.
There was a lot of prep:
my aunt Joan, me and my Dad (yes the honoree wanted to help cook!) in the kitchen making 6 roasted chickens. Yum.
Dave and Amy making the windows look like stained glass.
My brilliant sister Gin creating the centerpiece. All the decorations were her brain child... she's very good.

And then we had a serious feast!
The round table... just like King Arthur. It seated all 27 of us.
King Wayne at his seat of honor:
Check out this cake that my cousin made. She's a culinary genius.
After stuffing ourselves with delicious food, we headed outside to tourney! We had a joust,
a gauntlet, and archery.
We even had a dragon slaying... a sweet dragon pinata Amy made.

Then Chris pulled out all the stops and showed my dad the trebuchet. Yes, I said trebuchet. Ha ha! We are nerds. It weighs over 500 lbs. It can fling a rock really far. It is crazy.

And because my dad is really that amazing, he even took time to read the grandkids some stories.

Happy Retirement Dad!
