Cade's 1st Birthday

Our sweet baby Cade turned one on May 4th.  I cannot express properly how amazing it has been for Cade to come into our family.  He has been a joy every day.  His ability to create harmony with his brother and sister, make his parents smile, and generate all sorts of happy feelings in others is second to none.  I can't believe he wasn't part of our lives until just a year ago.  Although I have purposefully tried to savor every moment of his infancy the time has sneaked by and I feel sobered that he has already hit this milestone!  Cade is my sweet baby and I'm totally snookered.
We gave Cade his own birthday cake to eat and he just dug in with gusto.  I have never seen a baby eat a cake like that.  It was really funny and a bit scary, truthfully.  I had to wipe away the frosting that was completely covering his nose so he could hurriedly cram another fistful of cake into his mouth in between breaths.  If we tried to get in his way, he just swatted our hands away with one frosting covered hand while his other hand grabbed and stuffed.  It was serious business.

It wasn't until he'd eaten about a quarter of the cake that he sat back and gave us a smile.  This boy loves to EAT!

He got a clean bill of health for his one year check up.  He is 21 pounds and 29 3/4 inches long.  Cade loves playing with any type of ball and can even be heard to say "ba ba" which we're convinced means he's a prodigy and is speaking already.  His favorite thing to do lately is crawl in super speed with his head tilted down in order to gain as much momentum as he can.  Then he'll head butt anything he comes in contact with.  Usually it's me.  He'll giggle and clap his hands and then go in for another round.  Cade is totally entertained by Afton and Ben. They will play with him and get him giggling so hard he does a silent little laugh and then a big delighted scream.  I love baby laughs!
Cade sleeps through the night (most of the time) and eats anything we put in front of him.  He has seven teeth so far; four on top, three on bottom.  He has started holding his own bottle and learned to sip from a sippy cup.  Looks like we'll be making the transition this week away from bottles!  It is kind of sobering to see how quickly he picks up new skills.  I am totally biased, but I think this kid is crazy coordinated.  My prediction is that in the next month he'll figure out how to walk.  He walks along all furniture and pulls himself up on everything.  He loves to walk while we hold his hands.  It's just a matter of time until he realizes he can do it himself!
We love our Cade!!!!

oh I love this boy. He is special. Seems just like yesterday he was tiny and had that duck toy stuck to his binkie to hold it in place. Time flies
